The severity of the ringing will vary. Some people only have it happen every now and then. Others have such a loud and continuous ringing that they struggle to function normally on a daily basis.

The cause of tinnitus can vary, and it surprises many people that some of the most common causes relate to their oral health. When you have ringing in your ears, it is possible that we can correct the problem for you.

Cavities and Other Oral Health Issues

It is possible the ringing in the ear is related to problems with the teeth and gums. Cavities can impact the nerves in the teeth. The irritation of the nerves can radiate to the nerves by the ears and can result in the ringing of the ears. The same things can happen as the enamel erodes from the front of the teeth.

The more sensitive the teeth become, the more impact it has on all the surrounding areas including the ears. Tooth sensitivity can lead to several other issues, including ringing in the ears. These are all oral health issues that we can help treat in our office.

Tinnitus and TMJ

The temporomandibular joint is the joint that connects the jaw to the skull. There are nerves and muscles associated with these joints. When the joints do not function properly, they cause a variety of symptoms that include jaw pain, headaches, clicking sounds and ringing in the ears.

There are many different causes of TMJ. If the jaw is misaligned, it is possible for us to correct it. It is also often a result of bruxism and teeth grinding which is another problem that we have solutions to. If the ringing in the ears is associated with TMJ, there are many things we can do to help correct the problem.
